Using Pinterest to promote your Ecommerce website

Social media is currently very important to Google.
Part of their latest algorithm, measures what are known as "Social Signals".
These are mentions of and links to your website using Social media websites.

These would include the obvious sites like http://www.twitter.com and http://www.Facebook.com, as well as Google Plus,
but also include other social websites such as http://www.youtube.com, http://www.townfish.com and http://www.pinterest.com

This post is focused on how to effectively promote your ecommerce website using Pinterest.
The first thing to do is open an account and set up your profile. Make sure you add a profile image and add your website address to your description in the "About" section.
You will have the option to link your Facebook and Twitter accounts to your Pinterest account. This is a very good idea to do, as each time you add a pin, it will also share it on the other websites.

Once your profile is complete the next thing to do is to add some Boards. Boards are like categories, and for Ecommerce websites this is perfect.
Pinterest will automatically generate some standard boards for you. You can either delete these , or you can use them for testing or adding other related pins.

Add a board for each category on your website, using the same name for the board as you use for the ecommerce categories on your website...
Once that done, you need to start adding the pins. Pinterest allows you to pin images to your boards, and then provide a description for each image.

In your Pinterest account click to add a Pin. A pop up wiondow will appear asking you for the website address.
Go to your ecommerce website in a seperate tab or browser window, and click on the first category.

Next click to view an item in that category. Go to the address bar in your web browser and copy the URL or website address to that page.
Now in the Pinterest page paste the URL (website address) in to the field that says "http://" and click "Find Images".

Pinterest will search for a moment, then open a new pop up window, with the image on the left, and a drop down menu with your boards on the right, and below it a text area for you to add your description.
If the image shown is not the image of your product, (maybe it is your logo, or some other random graphic from the page) dont worry, click the right arrow below the image, and scroll through until you find the image you wish to use.

Next go to the drop down menu and select the board that the product belongs to, and then in the description field add a link to your website, and a description for your item.
You can even add a phone number for your business for people to call you if they like the item and want to buy it.

At the bottom of the window is a big red button with "Pin It" on it, before you click this, check the board is selected correctly, and you can also click the Twitter and Facebook boxes to have this pin mentioned on those website too. Now Click, Pin It.

Do this for each of the products on your website.
You can also create boards for items related to your industry and repin other people's pins. Make sure that you add your website address in the description.
Clicking "Like" on other peoples pins draws you to their attention, and they will be likely to view your boards and may even repin your pins which is great as even more people have the potential to find your website.
